Govee outdoor lights: which one is right for your home?

Govee makes three kinds of outdoor lights we install on homes in Newmarket and York Region. They look alike in the box, but they light your house differently. Here is what sets them apart, in plain terms, so you can pick with confidence.

The models

The three models we install

Best value

Permanent Outdoor Lights 2

Govee's value pick for permanent roofline lighting. Small individual lights sit along the roof edge all year, ready for bright holiday colours one night and a calm white glow the next.

  • Every light can show its own colour, so patterns move along the roof
  • One white channel for everyday lighting
  • About 40 lumens per light
  • Weather-sealed IP67 lights, made to stay up all year
  • Works with the Govee Home app, Matter, Alexa and Google Assistant

Best for: Most homes that want colour for holidays and a soft white the rest of the year, at the best price per foot.

Brightest and most flexible

Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro

The step up. Each light has both warm and cool white, so it goes from a cosy 2700K to crisp daylight, and its anti-glare lens spreads a soft triangle of light down the wall instead of a bright dot.

  • Warm and cool white in every light, from 2700K to 6500K
  • About 50 lumens per light, the brightest of the three
  • Anti-glare lens with a soft, triangle-shaped wash of light
  • Can be cut and extended to fit unusual rooflines
  • Weather-sealed IP67 lights in a white or black housing

Best for: Homes that will use white light most nights, want the cleanest look up close, or have a roofline that needs custom lengths.

Budget and accents

Outdoor Strip Lights

A continuous LED strip instead of separate lights. A lower-cost way to outline a roofline, or to add colour along a deck, railing, fence or patio.

  • One continuous line of light in colour segments (RGBIC)
  • Splash-resistant IP65 strip, less sealed than the permanent lights
  • Comes in rolls of about 33 ft that join together
  • Mounts with clips and adhesive
  • App control, music mode and Alexa

Best for: Decks, railings and patios, or a budget roofline where the strip sits out of direct weather.

Choosing

How to choose

Mostly colour, or mostly white?

If you picture your house in holiday colours and game-day themes, any of the three will do it. If you will mostly run a white glow every evening, the Pro is worth it: its warm and cool white come from dedicated white LEDs, so the white looks cleaner and you can set it from candle-warm to daylight.

How it looks from the street

Permanent lights are separate points along the roof edge. The Pro's lens spreads each one into a soft wash on the wall, which reads well from the street and up close. Strip lights draw one continuous line, which suits railings and straight runs.

Length and layout

Measure along every roof edge you want lit, including the sloped sides of gable peaks. If you are not sure of the exact length, give us the approximate route where you want the lights. There is nothing to worry about: if it comes up short, we can extend it with extra sections later.

Power and the control box

Each system needs an outdoor outlet near where the lights start. The power adapter must stay out of the weather, so we plan where the control box and cable go before we mount anything. If there is no outlet nearby, tell us when you send your request.

Ontario winters

The permanent lights are IP67 sealed against dust and water, and the strip is IP65. Cold performance also depends on each model's operating temperature, so check Govee's specs for the model you choose. We install whenever it is safe; ice, snow or strong wind means we reschedule.

Your kit or ours

You can buy the lights yourself and we install them, or we supply them for you. In the online estimate, choose Hipros supplies them and pick a model to see the price with the lights included.

Questions

Govee lights FAQ

Which Govee lights are best for a house roofline?

For a year-round roofline, the permanent lights are the better choice: Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 for the best value, or the Pro for the best white light and a softer look. Strip lights cost less and work best where they are sheltered.

Can the lights be extended later?

Yes. Govee sells extension sections for the permanent lights, and the Pro can also be cut to length. If your first run comes up short, we can add to it.

Do I have to buy the lights from Govee?

No. You can bring your own kit, or Hipros can supply the lights as part of the installation.

Is Hipros a Govee dealer?

No. Hipros is an independent installer. We link to Govee's pages so you can check the latest specs for yourself.
